One crazy night....

So here's a little story for you all:
I was asleep in my bed last night and Matt had stayed up late burning copies of "Arrested Development" when all of a sudden he came flying into our bedroom at 2:30 in the morning yelling at me to get out of bed and get dressed. He was on the phone with the police and I was so confused. Finally he looked at me and said "The house behind us is on fire! I need your help, get dressed and run over there!". So I threw my clothes on only half awake and REALLY confused then ran out our back door to see the house right behind up in flames. The back wall of the house and the back porch were on fire. Matt was quick thinking and ran to the side of their house and found a hose, then turned it on the fire. Then he handed me the house and said he was going to get anyone that was in the house out. So I stood there spraying the hose and he ran around to the front of the house and started pounding on the door and ringing the doorbell over and over again. Finally a lady came to the door half asleep and Matt told her to get out of the hosue because it was on fire. He asked her if there was anyone else in the house and she said "no". So he came back around to the back where I was when she was out in her driveway and he told me to go back to our house and point the police in the direction they needed to go. So I did that and by the time they made it to the house and back to where Matt was he had put the fire out. Once they brought the flash lights and what not back there and were looking around they find a big pile of matches in the grass, an aresol can on the porch, and super soaker water gun (which I assume had some kind of an accelerant in it) on the grass. So basically, someone lit this poor lady's house on fire and left her there to die in the fire. Luckily for her, Matt heard the pop sound of the aresol can and looked out the window. Also lucky for her, Matt is really brave and a really quick thinker and was able to get her out of the house before she could be hurt and put the fire out before there could be too much damage to her house. So Matt's the hero of the day, and we were up until 4 in the morning writing statement and talking to cops and fire fighters. Crazy.

Our little puppy dog

Chase is so funny. He refuses to keep socks on his feet. He pulls them off as quickly as I can get them on then crawls around the house with one of them hanging out of his mouth. I am constantly picking up soaking wet socks all around the house.

The Joy of Motherhood.

I really do love being a Mom...more than I ever thought I would. However there are a few downsides. For example: Having your daughter who has had all kinds of issues with her ears since her surgery start runnning a 103 fever and taking her to the emergency room at 9:00 at night because you are ABSOLUTELY sure she must have a Staph infection or something and she is going to go deaf. Then sitting in the emergency room for 5 hours to be told that her ears are fine, but she has the beginning of pnemonia in her lungs. They discovered this after drawing blood, taking a urine sample (using a cathader....not fun) and doing a chest x-ray. At least we know it's not staph or something. Now she's on even MORE antibiotics which bring their own list of issues along with them. Diahrreah (sp?), Yeast infections, force feeding her meds, etc. So what is the icing on the cake in all of this? I'm sick now too. My lungs burn, achy body, coughing, constant headace kind of sick. I miss when I would get sick getting to lay in bed and watch TV all day (not have to go to school) and have my Mom bring me lots of fluids and toast and soup. Now I'm changing the nastiest diapers I've ever seen in my life, doing dishes, folding laundry, trying to keep my sick child entertained, trying not to deprive Chase, I could go on and on. I think I've complained enough for one day though.

One of Two things...

the doctor told me either Hallie has two really bad ear infections (call me crazy, but I thought the whole point of the tubes was to STOP the ear infections) or she is allergic to the tubes. Both of her ears are FULL of puss (sorry, I know that's a gross word). He gave her a full round of oral antibiotics and ear drops for one week. If it's not better or keeps reoccuring then she must be allergic to the tubes and they will have to go back in and take them out. Fabulous. :) So anyways, she is pretty grouchy unless she's all motrined up and these ears are so freakin high maintenence. On a more positive note, Chase is going to start crawling any minute now! He is so cute and so dang determined. He's getting up on his hands and knees and taking one or two crawls forward then falling on his face. It'll be any day now. I took this picture of him last night after I finished feeding him. I love the end of the day with perfect little Chase passed out on my bed.

Not-so-simple surgery

Hallie's little surgery that was supposed to be a breeze has proven to be anything but. The whole rest of the day after the tubes she walked around like a drunk person....they told us that would happen, no biggie. They also told us she would wake up the next morning feeling 100%. Well, she woke up three times that night screaming her head off and I actually had to go and lay in her toddler bed with her to get her to go to sleep. So comfy. When she woke up the next morning there was blood on her pillow and dried blood in both of her ears. So I called the dr and they said that that happens sometimes and if I see any new, wet blood to call them. So I got a wet rag and started to clean up all the dried blood in her ears and on her face (with her screaming her head off the whole time saying that it hurts) and discovered one of her ears was definently still bleeding. So I called the Dr and the called in medicated ear drops to the pharmacy. Great, so we started the drops yesterday. Did them twice, and by last night the bleeding seemed to have stopped. Then she woke up last night in the middle of the night and came into our bedroom. Matt asked her to go and get her sippie cup and baby when he saw her and was going to make her a bed on our floor. So anyways, Matt tells her to go and get those things and there is no reply. He asks her again, and no reply. So we both are trying to give her instructions and getting a little imatient with her ignoring us when she finally said "What did you say? What did you say?" She couldn't hear us. We were saying things like "do you want some candy Hallie?" with absolutely no reply. She just looked at us blankly and buried her head into my arms. So I'm starting to freak out, it appears as if Hallie has gone deaf. Finally, when Matt started talking to her REALLY loud she would reply, but if it was in a normal tone....nothin. So I called the oncall dr at 3:00 in the morning (I hate doing that) and she told me to bring her today at 1:00. She said sometimes the blood can dry in the tubes and obstuct their hearing. UGH! This morning she seems to be hearing better than last night, but all kinds of goo is dried to her ears. So we're going in this afternoon and this "simple" surgery is turning out to be "not-so-simple".

Success

Hallie had her little surgery this morning and it went really well. Nothing serious, just tubes in the ears. When we got there the bed for her had a teddy bear in it that the surgery center gives to all the kids. She was sooooo excited about that bear. She has been carrying him around all day and he is currently on time out for being naughty. They gave her some oral meds right when we got there to make her "drunk" and more willing to leave her mommy and daddy. We were only apart from her for about 15 mins then they came and got us out of the waiting room and said they were done. Quick and easy. She slept for about twenty more minutes and came out of the anesthiesia groggy and thirsty. She's been a little weird all day since then, but we already have noticed the volume of her voice has dropped a few decibles. So anyways, good day. Good surgery. Now we get to face a summer of trying to keep her ears out of the water. Any suggestions?

Making a wish

Happy birthday to you! Matt's birthday was on Saturday and we had so much fun! Here's a recap of our day:

We woke up around 9, threw some clothes on, ate breakfast, packed a few things, and waited for Kelsey and Eli to get here. Then we all took our random modes of transportation (Matt on his scooter, Kelsey on my beach cruiser with Hallie in the kid seat on the back, Eli in their car, CHase and I in our car) and went down to the beach. It was the perfect beach day. Matt brought the fishing poles he had gotten for Christmas and the boys fished from the beach the whole time. Kelsey, Hallie, Chase, and I just relaxed and layed around. We ate subway sandwiches on the beach for lunch and just played for about 3 hours. Then we all came back to our house and got cleaned up for a baptism in our branch where I had to speak. Went and did that, then came home and quickly cleaned the house for Matt's party we were having that night. I also had to put together his birthday cake that I had made (I made it all from scratch and it was soooooo yummy. I'm so domestic I can't even handle myself). It was three layers tall and everyone was really impressed. :) Then was had an awesome turn out for his party (about 30 people) and we all hung out, ate cake, drank soda, chatted, talked about the superbowl (the guys), just had a lot of fun. So anyways, it was a great day and here are a few pics for ya.

Welcome

One of my best friends, Kelly King, (a lot of you know her) just started a blog of her own. So head over there and welcome her to the new land of blog.
