Greece- Day 3. The night life and the food life.

I can't even start to describe the goodness/deliciousness/dreaminess/I would weigh 300 lbs if I lived here-ness of the food. I have eaten my weight in feta cheese in the last three days. They fry it, bake it, drizzle honey and sesame seeds on it, they have pretty much MASTERED the art of feta and I'm LOVING it. Everyone goes home for a little siesta from late afternoon until early evening and close up all their shops. Around 9 or 10 at night the restaurants all start filling up again and everyone is ready to fill their bellies. If you go out at 5 or 6 looking for some dinner, good luck! You're not going to find much.

My general rule is that if it still has legs or eyes...don't eat it. Matt lives by his own set of eating rules. And they're much looser than mine. He did convince me to try ONE bite of the octopus. After enough peer pressure, I did try just one. But definently not two.

We had a "crew dinner" tonight with all the guys that work on the jet with Matt. It was a lot of fun. The food just kept coming and coming and coming. So we just kept eating and eating and eating. It worked out pretty well actually. Because we work with NATO the people at this table are from ALL different countries. They range from Greek, German, Dutch, Italian, Canadian, Belgian, and American. The one big thing they have in common....DRINKING! They love it. And we had to try REALLY hard to not offend all of them by refusing all the alcohol they wanted us to try. Basically, we've spent a lot of time explaining ourselves and that we don't drink. Although many of them have informed us that now would be a good time to start. We're taking it under consideration. (just kidding).
Photobucket
Such charming streets. They all look like something out of a romantic movie.
Photobucket
Food, food, food. I could spend all of my time here eating and still walk away a VERY happy vacationer.
Photobucket
ahhhh, don't you just want to get proposed to here. Or have your man declare his love to you? Something along those lines.
Photobucket
a cool clock. You know, to tell you the time.

Off to Greece! Want me to get you something? *Winner*

I'm about ready to head off to drop the kids at our friends house who will be keeping them while we're gone. Then come home, go to bed, and wake up at 3 in the morning to go to the airport. Oh yeah, I might have come down with a nasty case of pink eye this morning and have to wear my glasses for the ENTIRE trip. My glasses that are 6 years old, by the way, and an old perscription, and kinda tweeked so they sit crooked on my face. Yeah, those ones. Should make snorkeling WORLDS of fun. And really pretty pictures of me. sucky sucky. But.....I'm going to Greece! So it's time to suck it up, stop complaining, and have an INCREDIBLE time. I can't wait. So, my dear fellow bloggers, leave a comment! When I get back, I'll randomly select someone to send a greek treasure to. Good Luck! See ya on the flip side.

***Congrats Mary! I'm sending off your package tomorrow!****

Yesterday morning after Matt had gotten Hallie up for school, fed her, and gotten her dressed, she climbed into my bed to wake me up so I could do her hair. (Matt has tried REALLY hard to do her hair...it's just not working out. She always walks out the door looking like she has a rat tail at the nape of her neck. Big props to him for even trying though.) So I dragged my tired body out of bed with my crazy bed-head hair all over the place and followed Hallie into the bathroom. Bleary eyed, I pulled her hair back into a high pony tail, then turned her around to give her a kiss on the forehead. After my little kiss I was ready to turn back to my bed and get a little more sleep until Chase was ready to get up. Just as I was turning away Hallie reached up and put both her little hands on my cheeks, looked me sqaure in the eye, and said, "Mommy, you look like a hairy BEAST." She gave me a little pat on the cheek, (kinda felt like a pity pat)and was on her way. Where does she come up with these things??

Have I mentioned lately that I love my husband?

Here's why:

Photobucket
He's a really great Dad.
Photobucket
He's REALLY funny. (TDY means "temporary deployment". Some of the guys we know have girlfriends that they keep on the side to take with them on these deployments. We joke about Matt's TDY girlfriend....me.)
Photobucket
And he spoils me ROTTEN!

I came home from a lovely morning at Ikea to find this little present sitting on the kitchen counter for me. I LOOOOVE presents. Matt's never been one to give random gifts...he usually sticks to special occasions. So I was shocked to find this darling wrapped box with Matt's funny little note on it. When I opened it I got a little teary and A LOT excited. I've been wanting a good camera forever and kept telling myself to wait for the next tax return, or save my hair money (which never happens, because I go to places like Ikea). Well I have to wait no longer! Get ready to see Greece through the eyes of my new Cannon Rebel. Whoot whoot.

PS- Thank you Matt. I love you even more than my new Camera.

Have you ever...(post edit)

read someone's blog that you don't know and tell yourself, "I KNOW that if we knew eachother in real life we'd be best friends."?? Does that ever happen to you? Happens to me all the time.
**post edit- as long as we're talking about people who I blog-stalk....if you happened to decide to make your blog private...GO YOU! But if you happened to decide to make your blog private and didn't invite me to read it...SHAME on you! :) My email adress is in the upper right hand corner here. Add me, and all offense will be forgotten, bless your heart.

Matt is sooooo happy he's home because he missed me sooooo much!

I can't help but feel so bad for my poor poor husband. He had to go to Norway for two weeks to "work". He was fortunate enough to be able to squeeze in a few leasure activities during these labor intense weeks....(in case you can't tell this post is seething with jealously and sarcasm).

Photobucket
Matt had a very hard time being able to enjoy the beauty all around him in Norway knowing that his poor wife was home all alone in Germany. He snapped a picture just so he could show me it wasn't THAT great. :)
Photobucket
Matt found it very hard to put a smile on his face for this picture (because he spent his entire two weeks crying to himself in his room and writing me love letters). He practically had to drag his limp, emotionally exhausted body onto this boat for a day of fishing with the boys.
Photobucket
He got so lonely in fact that he considered seeking out the companionship of this huge fish they caught. He said it wasn't as warm and curvatious as I am and felt like there might be some jealousy between me and the fish.
Photobucket
So he ate it instead.
Photobucket
Since he couldn't stop thinking about me, even on his weekend trip into the city with all the guys, he took a picture of this house because he knew I would love it and want it to be OUR future home. Now he's home again and he's SO relieved. He feels that vacationing without his wife just isn't for him and will try to avoid doing so again in the future. He's at peace now doing the things that he loves, like.....

Photo Shoot....

A friend of mine out here is taking a photography class and had to do a portrait. She asked if I would be her model...and of course I never pass up a chance to blow dry my hair and put on a little make up. Cailin did a really good job, but there was one thing I noticed when I looked at these pictures. I look old. I know everyone is going to post a comment say "No! You don't look old!" (and of course I'll graciously accept all the compliments, hehe) but it's the first time that I've really looked at a picture of myself and gone, Wow, I look like I have two kids and clean house and go to soccer practice and the grocery store everyday. I guess I'm saying for the first time I looked at myself and felt like I looked the part of Mom. It's not a bad thing....just a change.
