I think that was actually said by Thomas Jefferson, as part of this quote: "Government big enough to supply everything you need is big enough to take everything you have ... The course of history shows that as a government grows, liberty decreases." I'm sure it's been quoted by many, many others though, probably including Ford! :) But, yeah. It's a freaky time....
Okay, so the internet disagrees on this one. It was said by either: A: Thomas Jefferson B: Gerald Ford C: Barry Goldwater D: FDR Seriously, there are several website backing it up as coming from all four of those men. Hee. It's like that one quote about the youth of the church that was attributed to about 8 different General Authorities and given to every single seminary kid as a glue-in about 15 times, and ultimately turned out to be pretty much false doctrine that was penned by a random EFY instructor.
Oh, well. This one's a good quote, even if there's no real consensus about who said it!
Last time I checked healthcare is a NEED, not a want. I would like you to tell a mother dying of cancer that she doesn't really NEED that treatment to be around for her children.
Wow- so greedy of all those who want to have such a basic need met.
Anon- I believe that health care reform is necessary, just not a government takeover of health care. I feel that each state needs to look at the needs of it's residents and work to resolve the problem. Look at what Mass was able to accomplish, 98% coverage. No government take over necessary. No huge debt in their state. Have you ever walked into a post office or DMV? That's what your health care would be like with a big government take over. I'm sure that Mother dying of cancer would not want that for herself or her children.
I loved all the quotes. Here's mine, and it especially goes out to anonymous....
"Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end."
Anon, sorry to hear about your mother, truely I am, but honestly with the health reform bill just passed, your mother will definitly not be getting the care she so desperately deserves, this just takes it away ... we are talking limits of $5,000 a year per person .... this will not help her at all. The govenment is breaking several laws and our country just may have an "internal war" over this ... so far 14 states are suing over this ... this is really scary ...
AGREE! Where have states' rights, limited government power, checks and balances, and that thing called the Constitution gone? We need to get back to our roots before this country falls apart (even more).
What more can I say? The people that think this is going to help it isn't. Why would you want to impose something on people that is not going to help them!
just to show how scared the founding fathers were of a big government takeover again, their was not a president under the articles of confederation, which is what governed this country in the beginning. realizing, however, that we needed a person to represent us in foreign affairs the constitution was drafted with the unanimous vote of George Washington as president. The presidential seat was never intended to be just as king Henry!!!! less big goverment, and let our local governments take care of our individual needs. Also to Anonymous.... i'm sorry to hear about the fate of your mother, but it is not the responsibility of the federal goverment to take care of us. we should all appeal to our local state governments and ask them to take responsibility!!!
We like to keep it simple. I avoid stress at all costs, love a good nap, and my favorite is a hot bath. My family is my pride and joy and my Matt is my all time favorite person.
