A day in the life...

I was so cozy in my bed when Matt got up this morning before the sun. He is off flying who knows where today. I had big plans for all the fun things I was going to do with my babies today, right after I got a few more hours of sleep. Just as he made his exit from our bedroom to the shower a beautiful little person with curly blonde hair made her entrance...at 5 in the morning.
"go back to bed Hallie, it is still night time." I rolled away from her hoping this would make it very clear that I did not wish to engage in conversation at the moment, but would prefer to sleep.
"But I'm hungry Mommy" she says as she snuggles in close, face in my face, bad morning breath filling up my nose.
"I guess you should have eaten your dinner last night. Go back to bed."
She grabs Matt's blanket and settles in to a more permanent spot.
"Get off my pillow Hallie...use Daddys". I hate when she tries to share my pillow, but she always does.
"Dinner last night made my tummy sick, but I'm so hungry now."
"No talking or you have to go back to your own bed, we will eat when the sun comes up." I'm trying to get across to this sweet little (almost) 4 year old that I'm a desperate woman trying to get in my last 2 hours of sleep....and it would not be in her best interest to continue disturbing me.
Matt comes in and kisses me goodbye, I wish him good luck on his flight today.
I drift back off to my happy place. I slip in and out of sleep as Hallie continues to:
-try to share my pillow
-spoon with me
-kick me in the back
-tell me she's hungry
-get up and leave the room
-come back again
-leave again
"Mommy! I threw up!"
I'm awake now.
Hallie busts through my door and continues to puke on my bed (the bedding that I just washed a few days ago by the way).
"Run to the toilet!!" I yell. She has both hand plastered across her mouth and vomit is exploding from all around them. She leaves a trail of throw up from my room to the bathroom....I slip in the nice, smelly, throw up. Lovely. Hallie is wretching over the toilet, bless her little heart. When she is finished I strip off her clothes and put her in the bath. I start the "lets clean up the puke out of 3 different rooms and the hallway" project. When I go back into the bathroom to wash her hair she looks up at me with the saddest little sickie face and says "I told you dinner made me sick".
I get her out of the bath and into cozy pajamas. I hate it when my kids are sick. I hate that there's nothing I can do to make it better. I carry her down stairs and make her a cozy spot on the couch. It's disney time!
"I'm hungry Mommy."
"Sorry babe, but you can't eat right now. Why don't we try some apple juice and see if you can keep it down".
She continues to beg and beg for food. She downs the apple juice and seems to be ok....so I make her some toast and bring her a bowl.
"If you think you're going to throw up...use the bowl."
She gives me a funny look. It's not two minutes before that horrible sound of gagging hits my ears again, I run to her just in time to catch the tail end of the nastiness in the bowl. The rest of it is all over my couch.
Back to the bath.
Back to cleaning up more throw up.
Spend 20 minutes scrubbing my couch.
I can hear Chase is awake in his bed.
He's going to have to wait.
I get Hallie all cleaned up again (wondering if I could save myself a lot of work by just leaving her in the bath all day), and bring her back downstairs. To the other couch. First I cover the couch with a blanket (see, I'm getting smarter).
I get Hallie another bowl and tell her try to use it if she is going to throw up again.
"Mommy, I'm SO hungry. Can I please have some toast?"
"Hallie, you threw up all over your toast. We need to wait a while. You can try the apple juice, just sip slowly."
I go and get Chase out of bed and take care of his diaper (which leaked pee all over HIS clean bed), get him all set up with breakfast, and turn on another movie because the first one has come to an end. I sit down at the computer with my diet coke (starting early today) and take a deep breath. I'm not sitting there for 5 minutes when Hallie comes around the corner with a triumphant look on her face and bowl full of puke in her hands.
"Look Mom! I threw up again, but I made it ALL in the bowl. I didn't even drip! So you don't have anything to clean up!"
Sweet, sweet baby. Thank you SO much for that, because if I had to clean up one more bodily fluid today I was going to die. Just about that time, a horrible aroma filled the room. Like death warmed over kind of aroma.
"Mommy! I pooped!" Chase yells. OH, is THAT what's running down your leg?
Time to go and switch the laundry.

Thanks Sara. I remember those days and I am so glad they are in the past.
Good luck on the day and keep smiling and god bless all of you.
You may just need some chocolate to go with the diet coke.
Tell Matt his hats are on the way.

Oh man...I am not looking forward to that. Luckily I haven't had anything quite this horrendous yet. You are a strong woman. I probably would have cried.
