Success

Hallie had her little surgery this morning and it went really well. Nothing serious, just tubes in the ears. When we got there the bed for her had a teddy bear in it that the surgery center gives to all the kids. She was sooooo excited about that bear. She has been carrying him around all day and he is currently on time out for being naughty. They gave her some oral meds right when we got there to make her "drunk" and more willing to leave her mommy and daddy. We were only apart from her for about 15 mins then they came and got us out of the waiting room and said they were done. Quick and easy. She slept for about twenty more minutes and came out of the anesthiesia groggy and thirsty. She's been a little weird all day since then, but we already have noticed the volume of her voice has dropped a few decibles. So anyways, good day. Good surgery. Now we get to face a summer of trying to keep her ears out of the water. Any suggestions?

ear plugs??? i dunno...

shalene used to use these earplugs that were like wax so they would mold really easy to ear and they were water proof.

You can get ear plugs that are made especially for these situations, you may have to ask around to where you can get them made to fit her ears ... and I have heard about the wax ones ... ask her doc he/she may have suggestions but I know for sure there are some out there for that exact reason ... I am really glad all went well, give her loves for me and tell her I love her!

the doctor said not to use the wax ones because a piece can break off in her ear.

Really, no wax earplugs anymore? My brothers and I ALL had eartubes, some of us multiple times, and the waxy things were a lifesaver. We had to have them in anytime we were in the tub or pool in anyway. I think the general understanding was to mold a big piece with your fingers first, then smush it in there in a flat sort of way. How did the doctor recommend that you keep water out of her ears?

I am SO glad the surgery went well and everything seems to still be good. 15 minutes . . .that is definatly a pretty quick surgery. It was sad seeing her on the hospital bed, but I am glad she got a new teddybear and is a happy little girl. Hopefully this will clear up all those ear infections too!

Glad it went well. We had Ella at the ER for breathing problems last week. Not fun.

Wow, I cant believe the surgery was that quick! When my sister had tube put in, the doctor made special earplugs in his office. They were formed to fit perfectly to each ear. Maybe you can find someone to do that for you? Good luck!

Man! When you do a post like that, put the words at the top, so I don't have to scroll down like a crazy lady wondering why that sweet baby has tubes coming out of her! I haven't read your blog for awhile, (or anyone else's so don't feel like I have been ignoring just you), but you have some great pics, laugh out loud stories-locking herself in the car was a crack up and watching Chase dance was hysterical. Love all the posts and think your family is simply adorable-Happy late B-day Matt-I wish I could have been there to eat a bite of that cake it looks yumm-o!

I'm glad it was all safe and sound. I love that she loved her teddy. Those things are just so dang comforting! Good luck with the no-water-in-the-ear dilemma... I have no advice! sorry.
